Malabar Update 2023

Where has the year gone since our last update?

2022 Brahman Week – all bulls sold with a solid average and then we were back home with the start of a great season once again, with some beautiful babies hitting the ground from NCC Red Odyssey and M2 BRC Captain 518/1.

Our breeding programs kicked off in late October 2022 with AI and IVF programs, with continued use of Banana Station Manly 69, Tarraba Eastern Eagle 3700, Malabar Power Calibre and new sires Rockley Magnar, NCC Red Odyssey and NCC Manuscript.

Then December was upon us, with a trip to Texas planned, we hopped on the plane into Houston.  This was our first trip into the US and Brahman heartland.  It’s a busy place Houston Airport!!  And so are the freeways – we picked up our rental at Hobby Airport and took to the streets – interesting times 😁.

The Texan hospitality was second to none, with fantastic visits with Judd Cullers at Heritage Cattle Company, Brandon, Rachel, Mollie and Annie Cutrer at BRC Ranch, Mark Forgason and Steve Hudgins at JD Hudgins Inc in and around Wharton/Hungerford.

We then moved to College Station and based ourselves there for the next 5 nights, with visits to ST Genetics, Brushy Creek Custom Sires and Elgin Breeding centres.  We got to see “Captain” up close and personal at Brushy Creek – certainly did not disappoint and stands as a worldwide prepotent sire.  Visits where also made to Razorback Farms, Steve Martin at Witchita Ranch and Will Detering at Detering Red Brahmans.

We then moved on to Fort Worth for birthday celebrations, a bit of retail therapy and R&R.  The steaks, the Texan B-B-Q  were second to none and the vibe at the White Elephant and the Cowboy Channel bars topped off the trip.  Christian left Fort Worth with about $2 to his name….

As we made our way back to Houston, we stopped over at Huntsville and visited two more Brahman operations, Alfredo and Josefina at Santa Elena Ranch and Cesar and Mily at Casaray Ranch.

Thank you to all the beautiful people that made the trip so memorable.

Then back to reality – with a thud…

Mike and Christian and going well, with them both finding their direction.  Great to see them progressing and growing, in all facets of their life.

Continued shout out to Troy and Tracey Nuttridge of TLC Fitting Service, who have looked after a bunch of our animals for the year on the local circuit, Gympie Feature Show and the Ekka.

The country have certainly dried out, with the tap stopping 6 months ago and dry times setting in…hoping for a bit of solid spring rain to freshen up the grasses, but not looking to hopeful at present.

Brahman Week bulls are ready to go with vet checks and scanning over the coming weeks.

I have included a few pics from our trip in December.

See you soon.
